Intranet evolution

For some time now I've been following the "Globally local... locally global" blog. It focuses mostly on Intranet. Lots of insights are passed on to the world there. I've also been commenting on some of the posts. One post about Intranet evolution triggered me to ask some questions based on my "experience". Jane was so kind to give an extensive answer here.
